Duplicate Photo Finder

WebMind  (Free to try, $39.95 to buy)

Duplicate Photo Finder allows users to perform automatic comparisons of digital photographs in order to identify duplicates and also pinpoint differences in photos. Unlike products that are ostensibly similar, DPF doesn’t simply hunt for files that are exactly the same. Instead, the software performs an analysis of the actual content of the photo, and it can spot similarities.

Users are free to specify the degree of similarity sufficient to tag snaps as duplicates. Once the program has found what it considers may be duplicates, users can view the suspect images in order to evaluate the results.

The engine that powers DPF uses a method that goes by the name of CBIR (or Content-Based Image Retrieval, to give its full name). The program uses CBIR to scan contents of image files, analyzing RGB color patterns across the images. The same data is employed in comparing images that may or may not be identical or related.

This software may be useful to photographers who take many photos of the same scene and for whom DPF could save hours of valuable time.

DPF is compatible with a range of image file types including JPEG, RAW, BMP, J2K, PNG, GIF, TGA, TIFF, and many more.
