Sticky Notes

Sticky Notes permits users to make sticky electronic notes on their Windows desktops. These Sticky Notes look rather like so-called post-it paper notes but they are on the computer. The notes are handy for jotting down impending tasks, making notes of incoming messages, noting down ideas, reminders for appointments, telephone numbers, and upcoming birthdays. All these things and more can be recorded in notes and then stuck on users’ desktops. You can put notes anywhere on the screen as desired. Alternatively, they can be hidden from view but retrieved when necessary from the task bar. It is also possible to make notes bigger and smaller. Furthermore, contents of notes can have text and color formatting applied to them. Users can change the font, color, amount of transparency, plus insert hyperlinks. Notes can also be clicked through.

Once they are placed on the screen, any notes created will remain there until they are closed, even if the computer is restarted. It is also possible to add an alarm to notes so as to provide reminders. As an application, Sticky Notes is miniscule and easy to use, and every note created is kept in a single text file.

There is no installation process required to use Sticky Notes and neither is there any need for extra software components. Furthermore, it doesn’t make modifications to the Windows Registry. To use the software, all you have to do is download the provided zip file, then make a brand new folder at: C:\Program Files. This folder should be named “StickyNotes”. The next step is to extract everything contained in the downloaded zip file to the folder just created. Inside that folder you will find a file called StickyNotes.exe. Double click it and an icon for Sticky Notes should be seen on the System Tray. In order to have Sticky Notes start every single time with Windows, you should add SN to Windows’ group of Start-up programs. To accomplish this, users should click the small button marked “Create shortcut in start-up group”, which is found in Options.

Creating new notes is accomplished by double clicking the SN icon. Gaining access to the application’s menu is achieved by right clicking the SN icon in the tray. To gain access to the notes menu, you should click the downwards arrow found in the top left corner. As a default, SN stays above other windows, which is indicated by a pin. To change the setting, you should click the pin just once. Closing SN notes is done by clicking the tiny red button found in the top right corner. The application will save all your notes to a file stored in .dat format, so there’s no need to worry if a note got closed by accident, as it can always be retrieved by means of the provided Search window.
