WinZip 17

winzip-17WinZip Computing  (Free to try, $29.95 to buy)

WinZip has been around for years but the latest version (17) is all new, especially in the integration offered with the latest and greatest web services like Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

In the lifetime of the product, it has been downloaded a billion times, which makes WinZip the top dog for managing and compressing large size files. WinZip 17 can handle any file format you throw at it, and it offers encryption comparable in strength to the systems used in the banking industry.

Beyond basic file compression and archive creation, WinZip 17 offers a raft of functionality. The program lets users make PDF files from Microsoft Office files, as well as adding watermarks to PDFs and image files in a bid to smash piracy.

In this day and age, file sharing is the name of the game, and WinZip 17 doesn’t let you down in this area. Cloud services, like SkyDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox, are meat and drink to the program, which means users can do all their downloading and uploading, as well as archiving, right there inside WinZip itself.

Furthermore, the ZipShare function integrates beautifully with Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, so it is possible to share files on these platforms at the touch of a button.

Another great feature in WinZip 17 is ZipSend. This allows you to send files or folders using your preferred email address. The files are stored safely in the Cloud, and the recipients of your email get a link to download those all-important files.

What’s new in version 17: Cloud sharing, including integration with services such as Dropbox, SkyDrive, and Google Drive, and featuring AES encryption switchable between 128- and 256-bit.
